Description

Urban Seamless Gutters ATL upgraded the entire gutter system on a three-story brick home in Alpharetta, GA. We took down 258 feet of old 5-inch spike-and-ferrule gutter and replaced it, in the same locations, with 258 feet of 6-inch K-style gutter formed on site from heavy-duty .032-gauge aluminum in white, hung on 172 hidden hangers. All 225 feet of downspout were replaced with new 3×4 in white, and we replaced rotted fascia and damaged soffit along the way.

The Challenge

The house still had its old 5-inch gutters, hung with spikes and ferrules: long nails driven through the gutter into the fascia, which loosen over the years and let the gutter sag away from the roof. Behind one inside corner, the fascia board had split and rotted. The house runs three stories on its tall sides, with a cut-up roofline of gables, a garage wing and rear bump-outs, so every run took careful measuring and a lot of ladder work.

Our Solution

We removed all 258 feet of the old system and hauled it away, then replaced 18 feet of rotted fascia with primed pine and 26 square feet of soffit so the new gutters would hang on solid wood. We formed 258 feet of 6-inch K-style gutter on site and hung it on 172 hidden hangers, which screw into the fascia inside the gutter where they can’t be seen from the ground and hold far better than spikes. The roofline took 12 fabricated miters, 10 splash guards where valleys and steep pitches send water toward the corners, a roof cut, 8 end caps and 10 oval outlets, all sealed with GeoCel. Then 225 feet of new 3×4 downspout went back up in the same locations, with 30 A elbows and 30 pipe bands. The 6-inch gutter and oversized downspouts carry considerably more water than the old 5-inch system.
